Habits that Harm the Brain

Habits that Harm the Brain

We keep many habits without thinking much about them, but some of them can harm our brains. For example, skipping breakfast has been linked to poorer memory and cognitive function. Similarly, not getting enough sleep can also lead to problems with focus and concentration. Even something as simple as wearing socks and a cap to bed can help to prevent cognitive decline by keeping the brain warm. Of course, some habits are more obviously harmful to the brain than others. Smoking, for instance, has been shown to damage the hippocampus, a brain region important for memory. And consuming high amounts of sugar has been linked to impaired learning and decreased brain plasticity. So next time you reach for that second cup of coffee or neglect to eat breakfast, remember that you might be harming your brain in the long run.
